Despite this day’s tragic postponement, I have actually finished the last paper I will ever write at Penn & in addition to that level of satisfaction, I actually really enjoyed writing it.
“Presenting psychoanalytic ignorance as a vulnerability and dream analysis as a key to understanding, Hitchcock makes a strong case for psychoanalysis as a way out of all the drama and danger.”
You may even enjoy reading it.
troubled water
March 10, 2009on democracy now last summer, Zizek (@4:44) used his fervent last moment to plead that we not get caught up in the constant state of emergency and misled call to action which occupies our society. “We need philosophy more then ever.” more true now as our circumstances rapidly pivot, the hopes and efforts of many are to remain on or return to the axis we know and have always known. we need those jobs in order to keep our houses and lifestyles afloat. as the promise of free time disappeared with 401(k)s and job stability, the interest rates and sea levels rise-
just let it sink.
I just spent 4 years surrounded by at-heart business majors, plagued with expectations of summer corporate internships and the standardization of sleep dep. and here i am now, watching the clergy frantically tread water (postponing the probability of drowning) and finding satisfaction in it.
That was too honest.
Don’t hate me. I’m sorry.
But please, don’t take comfort in the collectivist anxiety and unfounded hope. of course, i also feel fear and uncertainty. my advancing enlistment into the post-college clearing, both liberating and dangerous, is seemingly ill-timed. while id have to admit there is a set of my future potential going down with the proud sinking pulpit (architecture, the banks, the american $, capitalism,) those are options that i don’t mourn after asking myself the questions. they were paid certain death, really. why fight to save this system? why rebuild? having condemned the option of continuation, i am able to revel in this great collapse as
an
opportunity
to
build
something
better.

do come!
